Today’s #reverb11/#resound prompt comes from Jaemie over at #resound 11, by way of Krissie from Questions for Dessert.

The holiday season is typically a time we focus on others, sometimes at the expense of ourselves. I can get so caught up in the expectations of the season that I have a hard time remembering to enjoy the peace and wonder of the season. I can forget to take time to care for myself. So lets look back on how we cared for ourselves. Maybe we’ll inspire each other to take a few minutes for ourselves today.

What was the best gift you gave yourself this year? Did you buy big, fluffy towels? Did you have a massage on a day when you really needed it? Did you forgive someone and give

yourself the freedom from that grudge?

It seems like this year, I’ve treated myself to a few nice things. And all of them are equally awesome on the scale of awesome things that didn’t leave me with buyer’s remorse. Because if you know me, I tend to get buyer’s remorse with a lot of things. I think though, given the circumstances by which these things were purchased, I have no need to have buyer’s remorse. They’re things I needed, and so the purchases were justified.

One of the highlights from this year include my Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D. It is an amazing piece of glass, and I love it to pieces. Maybe one day I’ll replace it with one of these babies, but right now, this does me just fine! It takes sharp photos and the bokeh is amazing.

The second highlight of my year, which are also ironically in my kit, are my two Nikon SB-900 AF Speedlights (although technically one of them belongs to Mr. Fox). Since I’ve been running around shooting more, I’ve had the need to have two speed lights in our kit, mainly to use as we would normally use studio strobes. They come in very handy outdoors, and I love the zoom on them (200mm!). One of the best investments I’ve made in my kit thus far, aside from the above glass and my camera itself.

Really though, there was an even better gift than those this year. One that both Mr. Fox and I went in on together, as it’s for him as much as it is for me. Something that we as a family have been longing for, for a while now.

And no, it’s not a baby, in case that’s what you were thinking.
